IU Health Regional Academic Health Center

IU Health Medical and Academic Campus

Project Overview

IU Health selected Anova as the Owner’s Technical Representative (OTR) for the development of the IU Health Bloomington Regional Academic Health Center. The project, located on the Indiana University campus, includes construction of a new acute care hospital, medical office building, and coordination with Indiana University for a new educational facility.

As OTR, Anova was responsible for leading planning, design and construction oversight for the project from Schematic Design through Start-up and Closeout. The project included multiple buildings on a greenfield site with substantial grade changes. The Regional Academic Health Center consists of beds with all the attendant support departments that are part of an acute care facility such as dietary, central sterile, administration, facilities engineering, imaging, etc. The medical office building is a separate structure housing a women’s center and cardiac program.

The project is pursuing LEED® Silver certification and is being delivered under an Owner Controlled Insurance Program.

Creative Solutions

The size and complexity of this new state-of-the-art facility involved managing multiple design firms and internal IU Health partners, requiring a team effort by everyone to understand the intent designed into each aspect of this project. The campus design incorporates the latest in hospital technologies and functionality for the hospital of the future. To meet the design needs of the project on a fixed budget, we implemented Target Value Delivery lean practices to collaboratively produce a design that provided the best value for the IU Health.

As part of the Owner’s Technical Representative team, Anova assisted IU Health with defining their standards and systems for all their healthcare systems.
